WHAT: Fathom Entertainment and The Royal Ballet are proud to continue bringing world-class ballet productions to theatres nationwide with Kenneth MacMillan’s
Romeo and Juliet on March 8 and 9, 2026.
Originally broadcast March 20, 2025, audiences will once again be transported to the Royal Opera House in London for a timeless ballet adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Royal Ballet Principal dancers, Fumi Kaneko (Juliet) and Vadim Muntagirov (Romeo) star as Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers, brought to life through Kenneth MacMillan’s detailed choreography, set to Prokofiev’s ravishing score.
Shakespeare’s great love story is brilliantly retold through this modern ballet classic, celebrating its 60th anniversary this season. The fervent longing of the star-crossed lovers is perfectly captured in this celebrated production. The flourishing of young love is just as present in Romeo and Juliet’s meeting on the balcony as in their final moments when they desperately cling to life in the tomb.
Prokofiev’s evocative music sets the scene for stolen romantic moments and deadly feuds and sweeps the ballet towards its inevitable and tragic conclusion. Perhaps most recognizable is the “Dance of the Knights,” the music that accompanies the Capulets as they enter the ball in which the two lovers first meet.
